trolling...thames estuary

hi all

1st time post

got myself aboat (21ft fishing boat) on the river medway..near gillingham marina.

Off out to the thames estuary this coming tuesday.....around garrison point and alike,thinking of haveing ago at trolling but not to sure what the sort of setup i`d need for say thornbacks?


was also thinking of running out to the reds sand towers..wonder how thats fishing?

anyway looks a good forum with some good advise...hope i may get some myself

hello mate,welcome to the forum,
not sure if you will be very successful trolling in the thames estuary,its not the sort of venue for that.
may i suggest some bottom fishing,perhaps dropping the anchor and fishing for the thornbacks which are quite numerous at the moment.
if you want to try the sands then an early bass may be likely,try peeler crab or using artificials.

point taken (fishypaul) about trolling....
the only reason i was goner try that i dont know of any real good fishing marks (apart from the montgomery ) but well don`t fancy a run in with the pla e.t.c
Mind you i bet it would be a top spot if you could fish it...wonder if anyone has tried?

oh well u never know.

many years ago i fished a heat of the now defunct t.v.s angling competition,(does anyone remember it ? ),
i was drawn at southend and fished as close to the montgomerie as possible,there is a half mile (or something like it ) exclusion zone all round it,
we caught a few eels -silver ones,thats all as far as i remember.
