Beginner needs a little help!!

Hi I used to fish when i was younger but sadly i lost that part of my life, but now i want it back.....

I would consider myself an absolute beginner....

I want to do all kinds of fishing. but at the moment i'm sticking to Carp fishing,
can anybody out there help me in terms of what equipment i will need?

What kind of Rods??? and how much I would expect to pay (ebay)??
The kinds of tackle needed???
what baits to use???

if anyone can help me regain my youth itwould be much appreciated.... and if someone can go into each of the sujects in a bit of detail and/or suggest new things i dont know.... That would be much appreciated..

well i think that more people should do it.... i work non stop and can get a little wind-up and theres nothing like fishing to take my mind from the daily grind and relax......

Rods-
If legering, you're going to what a strong rod with a test curve between 2.25lb and 3lb. You can buy these new from 30pounds+ (but as you know, you pay for what you get )

However, I'm don't know about eBay prices as I prefer to go into a tackle shop and ask to see the rod, and have a bit of a feel for what it's like.

If you're planning to float fish, a lighter rod with a t/c of about 1.75lb was perfect for me, however you may want to go a bit lighter, some float rods can be bought cheaply, some are very expensive.

Tackle-
Again, this will depend if you are legering or float fishing.

If legering, and the carp go big, you'll want quite strong tackle. Main line on your reel atleast 10lb I'd say, and I use a braided hooklink of 15lb with a size 8 or 6 hook- hair rig style. (If you look in the tips section, there's a post about how to make hair rigs) You'll then want a lead or method feeder, I use a 1oz lead, but that's because on most of the lakes I fish I don't have to cast far.

If float fishing, lighter line will be the norm. 8lb mainline (maybe straight through to the hook) with a size 12-8 hook (if big carp are around) A waggler float will be fine for carp.

Bait-
Legering, boilies seem to be the best bait these days, but can be quite expensive ( a post in tips section to make your own, a lot cheaper) Luncheon meat, sweetcorn, pellets (big halibut pellets are great!)

Float, maggots, sweetcorn, worm, luncheom meat, will all work for carp. If freelining on the top, bread and dog biscuits a great bait in summer.
