Re: Real Newbi

Getting out with the club members will be good , get to know a few local marks , i`d start on the smaller tides , as the run on the big ones ,makes anchoring and anchor retrieval tricky , better to get the hang of it on small tides against a knot or so ,and not against 5 knots of tide .

Give Dave Kirk ,who runs Enterprise out of Portishead a call ,he might be able to give you some good advice

Good luck ,looking forward to reading about your exploits ....

Re: Real Newbi

Hi yet again
Just a quick one
Mike how did you gain experience of sea fishing?
How many courses have you been on.?

You are obviously a very experienced Sea Man but i did wonder how "You" Gained that experience. You do not have to answer as it was a little "Cheeky" of me asking
Cheers
Colin

Re: Real Newbi

I`ve been fishing on boats since i was about 12 , used to crew a lot on weeks and holidays, so gained experiance over 35 years . (and still get sea sick )

Qualification wise .....RYA Advanced powerboat , Day Skipper , Yachtmaster , First Aid ,Sea Survival and VHF.

Still learning , best bit of advice i could give you ,is take nothing forgranted out there , treat everything with the utmost respect , or the Bristol Channel will bite you ,and given half a chance kill you .
