| Hello Right so as I'm new around here I'll start by introducing myself. I'm Carl and I live in Manchester. I've recently got back into fishing after having 10 years away from it. Im into coarse fishing and have only ever float fished really, but I'm looking to change that and try my hand with a feeder and see what happens from there. I look forward to speaking to you all and sharing any info and stories I have. |

| Re: Hello Hi Carl - wecome to the forum There are mainly two types of swim feeder. 1) Maggot feeder. 2) Block end feeder. With the maggot feeder make sure you bait the hook first before filling the feeder - otherwise most of maggots will end up on the bank. Also sometimes you will get false bites - as the fish will try to pull the maggots out of the feeder & it's not unheard of for a pike to grab it. The block end feeder is often a better option. You plug one end off with groundbait the fill the feeder with the offerings of your choice (usually though not always with same as your hook bait) then plug the other end again with ground bait This then deposits all the contents almost instanly around your hookbait. Experiment with different hook lengths (distances from the feeder) - i usually start off with about 18 inches & if i'm still missing bites - shorten this. I'm NO expert by any means on feeder fishing & there are certainly other members in the forum who can give you more technical info' than i ever could - i'm like you - more of a float man - but this will give you a decent start. It's all about trial & error & remember what works on one water doesn't always work on another!! & even sme water on different days (sometimes you can't tempt them for love or money.) Let us know how you get on. Martin. ![]() __________________ Fishing - the best fun you can have with your clothes on. |
