| How do?! Hi everyone New to the forum but not such a new angler... Fishing neigh on 35 years, coarse mainly progressing to match fishing then becoming disillusioned with it all, esp team fishing I returned to pleasure fishing and a bit of carp angling. The best years in my fishing life were the late 80's early 90's fishing the Trent virtually on my backdoor. Willington, Twyford, Barrow, Swarkestone, Sawley - brilliant venues back in the day of the power stations where 50lbs of chub/barbel on the feeder was common and 20lb of stick float roach was so enjoyable. Moving away to the NW in my early 20's saw me break into the hard, northern canals. Depressing to say the least! I jacked it all in several years ago now but my dad bought a caravan in Lincolnshire a couple of years ago on a site that has 6 lakes and all my fishing is mainly done there now. However, my lad (14) is as keen as I ever was and he can catch em when they are there but he needs to learn the ropes - watercraft, weather, feeding patterns etc. those little things that makes an average angler into a good angler. I look forward to passing on to him what I know starting with handling a long pole and watch him develop his own style. As we live by the coast he's asked about sea fishing too. After explaining that sea fishing is a great winter alternative to the carp pools we found ourselves on ebay buying him a rod and reel. Just a cheapie to start but I intend to upgrade him if sea fishing bites him. I've done some sea fishing in my time, holiday fishing off the beach with my grandfather and my dad. Never caught much besides eels (East coast) but moving to the Fylde in my 20's saw me have another crack at it and fish came - codling, whiting, bass, dabs and the like. So for now I'm back on the beach doing the father son thing and loving it! We've had 2 sessions over the last 10 days or so and he's caught small whiting, dabs and a doggie. Anyhoo, I'm a member of a climbing forum (yep, I climb mountains too!) and have been for years, the guys and gurls there are a very friendly and light hearted pi$$ taking bunch and browsing your threads you lot seem to be the same! I look forward to taking part in many a disscussion, be it serious or not Thanks for having me! Paul B |
