Liverpool Canal

Hello, im very new to this an new to fishin so i av a question or two if any one would be willin to give feedback i would really appreciate it..
Iv been fishin the liverpool canal twice a week for the last month.. say 8 hours a day an in total iv caught about ten fish, one chub, few roach few perch, i generally use a self cocker float or a waggler, tryin all different depths dependin on weathers, generally fish on red maggots, an cos i aint caught recently iv tried worm, bread, pellots, soft hook pellots everything, so im convinced im doin somethin wrong, the last few times iv blanked, iv seen 5lb + carp in me swims, pike, loadsa roach, perch an chud but no bites at all. Im sure it comes with experience but im findin it really frustratin tht i aint caught in about 24 hours of fishing wen ther definately around, any advice would be great,
Thanks

Re: Liverpool Canal

put a white loaf of bread in a blender till its a fine crumb, when you get to the bank add 1/2 pt hemp and use as g/bait couple of handfull to start, fish maggot over the top of the g/bait, and feed a small handfull of g/balt every 15/20 mins.
dont wet the bread g/bait just squeeze it in you hand, so when you toss it into the water, it breaks up, creating a cloud.
hope that helps

Re: Liverpool Canal

good for you, next time you go try fishing just of the bottom, a couple of inches, do you know how to plumb the bottom of your swim ? for finding how deep it is ?

Re: Liverpool Canal

yer i kno how to do that, but i cant say i kno when to fish wa depths an that, il jst mess about with depth untill i hopefully catch then once i do il stay at tht depth, i see fish baskin in the sun about 5 inches from surface, but they wont take nothin, no matter how shallow i go, an i cant see them swimmin down to the bottom wen ther so close to the top, i guess its all things il learn with time... would u see a couple of inches off the bottom is affective? also i dont really kno how my canal is in sense of ledges how can i find these ledges iv heard if u get into that area u have a good chance

Re: Liverpool Canal

you use a plumb bob or weight, ones with a cork strip on the bottom is best, put the hook through the eye then put hook into the cork, then lower the plummet into the water, where you intend to fish, try different spots all around the area, if your float lays flat its shallower than the depth you have set your float, if it sinks then you have a hole or gully, just keep doing this and you will find all the depths, try to remember these in your mind, when you select where your going to fish, move the float up/down until its cocked right, then move the float down the line by about 2" to fish off the bottom, or up the line to fish laying on the bottom.
try to fish the deeper spots, these are where the fish are normally

hope this helps

Re: Liverpool Canal

yer i use the one with the cork strip mate, im onto how to do me depth i just struggle to get an understandin of wa depth it is to fish, like on hot days should i always be fishin shallow close to the surface wer i see all the fish? cos thats wa i tend to do but dont get bites its so frustratin watchin them jst swim round my bait, but the times i have fished deep iv caught like a 1lb chub an 1lb perch, but its very seldom i get the bites wen on the bottom in sunshine, is it actually worth fishin wen the weather is good? god ther is so much i need to learn , appreciate the advice aswell mate, thanks
