| After a few years away from regular fishing iv decided to start again. My 8 year old grandson wanted to go so i took him and hey ho im hooked again. As i live inland my main interest is freshwater fishing but i still have both beach and boat tackle so who knows what the future holds. The last few weeks iv been going to Pickworth hall near Grantham which is on the local Grantham angling club book as well as a day ticket water on sat mornings. Main species are carp to 20lb with huge amounts of pesky small roach and a few bream and tench thrown in for good measure. Normal net has been 20lb ish for about 5 hours using meat and corn, although iv been snapped a couple of times using 8lb maxima line so gord knows how big some of the carp are. Its 3 small lakes with 5 0r 6 swims each out in the middle of no where so you need to be early to get a spot. After being away for a while im surprised how tackle has improved compared to cost. Iv treated myself to 3 new rods and reels and the new stuff is a delight to use, much lighter and smaller in diameter than my old stuff. Shimano made push bike gears years ago and now they make fantastic rods and reels. Iv even been trying hooks with hair rigs on, who ever though of that idea, brilliant. Going to give another small local lake a bash this sat so hoping to catch one or two of the tench there. Tight lines, Tim. |
