Crane Sports CS300 RD Reel

Hi,

I am fairly new to all this, but just wondering if you can answer a question. I have a fox beach and pier rod, but no reel. I've been given a Crane Sports CS300 RD reel. I know nothing about it, and trying to Google has provided practically nothing other than Crane Sports is/was sold through Aldi, and is potentially no longer a company.

Anyway, what I'd like to know is the thickness of the line, and the weight it can take. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Re: Crane Sports CS300 RD Reel

For general beach & peir fishing 15lb line should be OK. Step up to 20 - 25lb line for snaggy or rocky areas. Don't forget to use a shock leader if you are casting. A shock leader is a length of 50-60lb line attached to your mainline. You need enough shock leader for about 10 turns of line on your reel plus the length of your rod & a couple of feet beyond the tip ring. This takes the load & helps prevent crack-offs when casting which can be a hazard to bystanders & other anglers. Also if you hook a large fish, you can use the stronger line to handline it up the side of a peir or rocks.

Re: Crane Sports CS300 RD Reel

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Are you confirming my CS300 RD is 15lb, or just saying that is what I need?

I'd really like to know what the Crane Sports CS300 RD Reel is.

Thanks.
