question about white maggots....

hi, im new to fishing and i have about 1/2pint of maggots in my fridge, in a box with airholes... theyve been in there for about a week, and are starting to go red... is this normal? or should i throw them?

No this isn't normal. If the maggots are alive then they haven't gone off, don't throw them out. Live things don't rot. Well normally anyway. If they smell strongly then throw a handful of groundbait on them. Personally I always leave the lid off my maggots when they are in the fridge so they don't sweat. Having said that it is MY fridge and nothing other than beer goes in there. HER fridge (or OUR fridge when it needs cleaning) does not get bait in it. Hope that helps.

Hi, if the maggot has gone stiff and shell like its probably a caster which is the pupa of the maggot before it turns into a fly. These can be used as a hook bait or mixed up with other goodies to create a good loose feed. good for moste species such as roach,perch,skimmer,barbel ect

not too sure, depends on temperature really, I wouldnt like to risk them hatching. If you dont use the casters freeze them for another day or chuck em
