| Hello Fellow Fishing Addicts (New Here) Hi there, been hooked in the fishing bug. I've been fishing in the Philippines all my life and if by chance anyone of you come and visit...rest assured you have an angler friend from this side of the planet. Tight lines and I'm sure there is a treasure trove of info here as I'll try to contribute from my side. Happy Fishing. Here is an introduction vid of me and one of my freshwater honeyholes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHvlO7ZCo9E Cheers |

| Re: Hello Fellow Fishing Addicts (New Here) So what can you tell us about snakeheads? And what else do you fish for over there? __________________ 2012 species: 13 All-time species: 65 New species caught in 2012: white sucker, popeye shiner, white shiner |

Snakeheads in the the Philippines are the (Channa Striatta) or locally called Haruan or Dalag, they are considered endemic and even tho its a voracious predator its always in check because some of my countrymen eat them (I don't tho). We use spinnerbaits, pogies with spinning blades, softplastics and frogs to catch them and from my island of Dumaguete here in our archipelago our snakeheads get pretty big for its kind (they max out at 5 kilos science research say but our record is only 3.1 kilos). They are hardy fish and can withstand prolonged time outside of the water...very good for CnR without being too overly careful. Here is another strike vid and soon I'll contribute our estuary and saltwater vids. Happy Fishing and Cheers! Mike |

| Re: Hello Fellow Fishing Addicts (New Here) Thanks for the information! We have the northern snakehead (argus) in parts of Virginia and Maryland (I live in Virginia), the bullseye snakehead in southern Florida around Miami, the chevron (blotched) snakehead in Hawai'i, and the giant snakehead showing up occasionally all over the country. I haven't caught one yet, but I want to! We aren't allowed to release them alive or transport them without killing them, so I want to try to cook one as well! My passion is black bass. Anything you want to know about them, I can probably tell you. __________________ 2012 species: 13 All-time species: 65 New species caught in 2012: white sucker, popeye shiner, white shiner |

Snakehead infestation i see there...hope it wont get out of hand. First question... is black bass same as LMB? I tried to fish for them once in a lake in Luzon where the Americans of World War 2 seeded here in the Philippines... still juvenile LMBs but it was fun to catch them on crankbait. |

| Re: Hello Fellow Fishing Addicts (New Here) Yeah, black bass is a catch-all term for northern LMB, Florida LMB, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, Coosa bass, shoal bass, redeye bass, Guadalupe bass, Suwannee bass, and Bartram's bass. If you think they're fun to catch on a crankbait you should see them on a topwater! __________________ 2012 species: 13 All-time species: 65 New species caught in 2012: white sucker, popeye shiner, white shiner |
