Just joined. Hi all, being new here and fairly new to fishing I expect I will be browsing around a lot looking for tips. I am interested in getting into river/lake coarse fishing and perhaps getting into pike fishing at a later date.

Re: Just joined. Hello mate:) I see you have put (Pike at a later date)! Dont dread Pike their lovely fish! People are scared cause they have teeth, the only way a pike will catch you with its teeth is if you stick your hand in its mouth! Pike is probably the best fish to get started off on i would personally say! If you ever need tips on the pike let me know mate would be happy to help!

Re: Just joined. Thanks for the welcomes. Jords, its a money thing, I am partially disabled and can't work so money is tight, so I intend to set up with basic coarse fishing gear first (car boot sales here I come :) ) and work up to other gear later. My previous experience with fishing was years ago and of the 'come along with me mate, borrow my spare rod and I will supervise', so I do have some knowledge, also I have discovered Matt Hayes on Quest and have become hooked.

Re: Just joined. Thanks guys. I was given a rod,(Fladen ECO Superlite 11' 50-120g whatever that means) cheap and cheerful carp rod, the tip ring is squashed (caught in a door I think), but if I put on a new ring it should make a rod for piking? I bought a rod at a boot sale last sunday, Daiwa Dennis White Clubman twin tip 10' exellent condition, cost me £10. A friend gave me a reel yesterday, LEEDA 2XL Spin 30 with spare spool and said he will go through his tackle and sort something, he has loads of pike lures/spinners for example : ) I have no idea what all the numbers etc mean but another friend loaned me the complete set of 'The Art of Fishing' so I am ploughing through that.
