Slosh or splash

Hi,
I have read some really useful information on here which lead to me catching a pair of rays off Minehead (Gas works) last week. I have not done a great deal of sea fishing and live in Kent (that's probably why, but please prove me wrong, no boat suggestions off folkstone though, I will blow chunks and prefer solid ground).

I have only used a neighbours rods and reel before but am looking to invest and would be interested to hear whether anyone would reccommend splashing out serious money on something like a Penn 525 mag2 or just going with Slosh 30 I am told is so reliably solid and good value for money.
Cheers and happy fishing all
Ben

Hi Ben ,welcome to the forum ...

The new PENN mag 2`s are fabulous reels ,i have a pair of 515 mag 2`s and my fishing buddy has a 525 mag 2, the slosh`s are also a time tested cracking pieces of kit ,depends on what you want to spend really

Cheers for your reply.
I am a believer in investing in good quality but I'm wondering if the Penn is worth twice as much. Still on the fence.
Cheers
Ben

Definatly worth the extra money , the mag system is brilliant ,and user friendly ,would be even better for a novice angler ,as your less likely to get "birds nest" problems, if you shop around you can pick up 515 mag 2`s for around £125 ...

Re: Slosh or splash

You talking flea bay Mike or more "reliable" sources? Might be in the market (read am in) for one myself after speaking to my sea fishing guru. I think it's the look of disgust or contempt on Dans face when I get an egg beater out :) They do look like just the ticket for the occasional beach caster .

Re: Slosh or splash

I have both and use them side by side. The Penn mag2 is smoother and more refined. It has instant anti reverse and the brakes are better. You can get a pair of sloshes for the price of one penn mag though. The sloshes are good as well, I am happy with both and dont care which one I pick up. The penn is better but if money is tight you wont be disapointed with the slosh although you might always think, I wish I got the penn then go and buy one anyway like I did!

Re: Slosh or splash

sl20sh would be my chioce - the 30 is better for the boat ..
never used a penn rod or reel in my puff and if i had the extra cash it would probably be spent on more daiwa

Re: Slosh or splash

Has got to be a slosh!

The new Penn's might look nice but they have "issues" and are certainly not worth the extra money!
