Newbie needs advice for beach fishing on the Lizard Hi, I'm a new member seeking as much advice as possible. My best mate and I have decided to try re-capture the days of our youth and return to fishing. We grew up in Lyme Regis and as kids fished almost every day during summer holidays. Well, now after almost 30 years we've decided to give it another go. In five weeks time we're going to stay at Kennack Sands on the Lizard and want to try some beach fishing (something we didn't do much in Lyme). We're after as much advice as possible on tackle, line, baits, what it's like at Kennack primarily or anywhere else nearby, what fish will be about, just about any advice anyone can give us (and not too much technical talk please, we need to understand it as it's been a long time!). My wife doesn't think we'll catch a damn thing so we would love to prove her wrong and set her to work in the kitchen and like a fool I promised her some mackerel therefore as much advice as possible would be appreciated so we don't lose face!!!:

Re: Newbie needs advice for beach fishing on the Lizard Hi fishypaul, thanks for the welcome. Apologies for not replying sooner but sadly I've had the sudden death of a real good friend to deal with this week. With regards to my request for advice, could you help us out or put us on to somewhere that could? Would appreciate it very much.

Re: Newbie needs advice for beach fishing on the Lizard Hi Shedman. You should be able to catch a few Mackerel easily enough, all you need are a couple of sets of Daylights, cast them out and retrieve them in a jerking action. As for other species you will have quite a number that you will be able to target at that time of year from the Lizard. If you fish the rock marks then there are a lot of Wrasse and Pollock. To be honest to avoid tackle losses you would be better of float fishing a ragworm for the Wrasse or a Sandeel for the Pollock. Set your float so that it is about a foot above the level of the rocks and get ready for some fun. The beaches will fish for Ray and Bass, but normally night time is the best time to fish for them. Use a simple running ledger with Sandeel, peeler crab or mackerel. You don't have to cast out for for Bass. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk
