new guy in preston hello all, been skulking around your board a bit in the past few days. used to go fishing occasionally as a kid with a few mates to a local pit/pond on a farmers field and sometimes the lancaster canal but haven't done anything in 20 years! now my son (5) wants to go fishing so i've bought a couple of cheap rods and reels and some tackle (also ressurected some i still had in an old tackle box in the garage) and plan on taking him fishing. i've forgotten nearly everything i used to know so will need a few questions answering over the next few weeks etc probably, including advice on getting some proper tackle if i get back in to it. my main question is where is the best place around preston to go fishing? i live right near the lancaster canal and seem to remember salwick basin always being a decent enough spot and also up by the hand and dagger but if anyone has any better ideas and tips for me i'm all ears. initially i'm just looking to catch a few smaller fish to try and get my lad in to it, don't want him landing a 10lb pike or anything, it'd drag him in! so any advice as to what depth to fish at, locations, ideal float rig etc would be good thanks in advanvce!

Re: new guy in preston Welcome to the forum . It's great when we restart this sport you know. Still learning like mad myself and loving it. I can tell you that I have had many proud moments as a dad and one of the best was when my eldest (daughter) landed a 1LB roach on a 4 metre Decathlon whip. Well done that girl. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Re: new guy in preston Hi, I'm from Preston as well but I'm afraid I can't help you with any fishing spots as I only fish salt water nowadays. Now if you wanted to take your lad sea fishing... Rgds Frank
