New to Fishing Hi All! I really wanted some advice on what rod to purchase. I already have the idea that a 12' Shimano is a great starter for coarse fishing, but other than a cork handle, I'm not sure what sort of rod I might enjoy fishing with. The last time I fished was when I was 10yrs old-I'm considerably older now-and with all the new technology around I am not sure what style would best suit a little'un like myself. Has anyone any ideas? I have read so many books and magazines my eyes are fish-shaped, and I know that my rod licence is paramount before I see a lake bank, and have picked up some freebies from the mags, also noting the least equipment I should need. I don't really have a lot of money and want a good standard rod for some roach fishing this spring and maybe barbel and carp later in the summer months. Also, are there any Lady Anglers out there who I could share my fishing experiences with? Without prejudice, guys, you are amazing, and the guy who is going to teach me the technical stuff is a Match Winner, but a little female company along the bank wouldn't come amiss once in a while? Hope someone can help.......look forward to a reply or two......

Re: New to Fishing Thanks, not what I was hoping for on this forum but there you go....can't always cast and come up with a whopper! Gabriele, wine tippler, and no-one should drink on the bank! I'm serious about fishing, and I wanted advice, but the comments so far have not helped. Take care on here, seems you need your whits about you.

Re: New to Fishing To be honest little Roachess, you would need two different set ups for Roach and for Carp/Barbel, purely because of the finesse needed for the smaller Roach and the much larger rigs and techniques normally associated with Carp. For Roach you want a light rod and reel that you can either float fish or a quiver tip. Depending on the type of Carp fishing you will be doing you would probably want a 2 1/2 to 2 3/4lb test curve. This allows you to method feed or use PVA bags. Rods this powerful will simply cause a roach to pull the hook out with a few shakes of its head because they have no give in them against low pressure. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk
