| from the frozen north Hi All I live near Blackpool in Lancashire Dont get to fish very often so I like to make it count when I do. Fish the Wye near Hereford a couple of times a year for Barbel, best just over 10 lbs, occasional fly trips and pike in Lake District and just came back from trip to India for Mahseer. Would Like to hear about any River or stillwater fishing in North West. Oh and also Man Utd season ticket holder, don't hold it against me too much. |

mahseer was my first trip tp india, but will def be back next year. i have to confess that i nearly made a complete balls of it, had been sat in the same spot with a hard ball of bait for nearly 2 hours and had just turned to the ghillie to suggest we change bait when the reel went off big style and all hell broke loose, taking a good 100 yards of line. i had the multiplier on free spool and tried to stop it with my thumb, big mistake and blister to show for it, eventually got the reel in gear but the fish stopped a second before and i got a birds nest on the reel. must have been my lucky day because the fish just waited till we'd got it undone and then i began to reel in. fortunately i was in a deep channel rather than a rocky section and it gradually came in over the next 25 mins, me taking line in and the fish taking it back until it eventually calmed down and let me land it. i had a similar screaming run the following night and this time was more ready for it, did everything right, struck into the fish and it was there for a second and then gone. just proves there's a lot of luck involved in this sport. |
