Wanting some help with fishing ideas!

Hey, my name's Lianne.

I'm starting a project based around fishing at De Montfort university in Leicester, UK and i'm creating a new map based just for fishing users. I am looking to create new symbols for different things related just to fishing and for people who fish.

I would really love it if you could post me some ideas about what you'd like
to see on the new map idea.. perhaps things like...

what fish are in which area? Fishing accomodation? Particular hot spots for fishing? that sort of thing....

anything you'd want to see in particular?

I hope you can help as i'm a bit stuck and thought it might be a good idea
to come straight to people that are my target audience

Hi and welcome to the forum Lianne. I think hazardous fishing areas ie. tidal cut-offs and such, would be a good idea. Pin pointing areas with a record species catch, what time of the year an area will fish the best, just a few ideas. That is some task you`ve set yourself, look forward to seeing the finished result.

Would this be a map that is interactive for fishermen to add to?

If it was you could use symbols such as piers, beach, rocks so people could identify what the mark is and then add links to multimap, route planner for people to get there ect. Also have bar graphs for people to add to for that mark, each could have 3 graphs to clink on such as 1 for wind direction, 1 for state of tide and 1 for species caught. also a selection of bait so i.e click on worms, fish, lure.

That way it would build up a general idea of best states of tide,baits and wind direction for a certain mark ( the 3 most important bits of info ) , plus multi map would already highlight where parking, hotels ect were close to that particular mark.

Hi Lianne, welcome to the forum, and that sounds like a great idea although i think thatyou might need three or four different ones for different fishing interests, river, quarries, lochs, shore etc.
My own favourite would be boat fishing so i would be looking for the location of slips and also ease of access to slips. Also cordinates of wrecks, areas with dangerous tidal flows etc.
But if you are going ahead with your idea i,ll be happy to take notes when i'm out and about and pass them on.
