Hello to everybody, I have been an angler since I was a kid living in Brighton at the Black Rock end of the town. I have not done much fishing since the kids left home until recently. I met up with an old school mate who had had a stroke. We were both in the military at some time in our lives. I took him to the Prince of Wales breakwater in Dover a couple of years ago as it was easy for disabled people to get onto the pier instead of lugging tons of tackle and stuff like I used to. A chap on my allotments asked me one day if I had been fishing as he wanted to try. (I bet he wished he hadn't asked). We live about three miles from Dungeness so it seemed that I might have a go again. We went and he is hooked onto fishing now. We both caught a Whiting. I would like to fish the Prince of Wales Pier as we are both disabled one way or another. If any other fishing friends out there would let me know what is the best tackle and bait. And what the bottom is, is it sand. The last time I went there we fished all day and didn't get a bite. Is it true about the old fishing tale about the wind. Wind from the east, fishing is least etc...........The best sea fishing time I ever had was one night on the old pier at Newhaven in the 70s. Myself and my wife went night fishing. It was freezing but we caught so many cod that night that our hands were cramped from holding the rod and winding in. We were just using lug and squid. Good luck Mike Peirson

Re: Fishing on the Prince of Wales pier hello mike welcome to the forum, you have logged on at the best time of year, the prince of wales pier can be a bit of a grueller at times but in the autumn it is superb, it is an excellent whiting venue with a chance of a codling as well, nice clean bottom with reasonable tides, best of luck Last edited by fishypaul; 10-03-2010 at 07:48 PM.

Re: Fishing on the Prince of Wales pier P.O.W is open 24 hours 7 days a week, payment to fish the pier is by a machine at the entrance, if anyone who is going has a disability pass drive your car to the gate, press the button n show there disability bdge and the dhb will raise the barrier and let yoyu drive the car onto the pier, fishing is ok in the autumn with whiting, pollock, pout, dabs, a few mullet and some codling making an appearance, the cost is 3 quid a rod to fish, and the seabed is off very clean ground, i would recomend fishing into darkness there, use lug, rag and harbour rag baits ![]() __________________ https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/122835604396392/ Proud supporters of the RNLI Dover Lifeboat http://www.dover-lifeboat.org.uk/index.php

Re: Fishing on the Prince of Wales pier Thanks to both dover squiddy Paul and to Greenheart for the welcome. It is a nice feeling to be retired and take up fishing again. Especially watching my mate who is learning the ropes getting in a tangle. We just laugh our heads off. Best wishes Mike......thanks
