Hello from Mega rookie

Hi all, I live in sittingbourne in Kent. EX Army and a secret fan of fishing, Hoping my wife is gonna get me some basic fishing kit for my birthday on tuesday 31st Aug, as requested..

I know nothing and i mean nothing, about the art of fishing, names of kit, what to use, which fish is which, where to go or even how to get a licence! I just know i wanna go catch fish, sit in the peace of a lake and ponder life.

That i guess, is where you lot come it.

I am a car salesman in Maidstone, ride a motorbike and i am 38 on tuesday.

Thanks for reading

steve

Re: Hello from Mega rookie

so i went for the first time to a 4 acre private lake last thursday. calm sunny day, could see double figure carp cruising around..

2 rods

one with oily crab and mackrill pellets on hair rig on bottom, the other with maggott just off bottom on size 10 hook.

kept the ground bail out but caught sod all all day apart from a handsom little roach.

switched bait to peperami in the afternoon but still nothing... even has a more experienced angler look at my rigs and offered a little advice, but on the whole he said i was doing ok.

what was i doing wrong

gonna go again this thursday, shall i do the same but try sweetcorn or a different technique.

its a private and quiet lake with allegedly niave fish.... any ideas
