Newbie

Hey everybody, I'm a newbie. I stumbled across the website and must I say, its a pretty neat website. Just want to tell you a little about myself. I'm almost 26 years old, and I live in Lambertville, Michigan, which is dang near is far as Southeast Michigan as you can get. I live practically on the OH-MI border, a couple miles from Toledo, OH. I'm an hour southof Detroit, and about 25 minutes west of Lake Erie. I do most of my fishing along the western shoreline of Lake Erie, and at an inland lake at Sterling State Park in Monroe, MI. I grew up bottom fishing for catfish and bullhead mostly, and did some bober fishing like most kids for bluegill and perch. Got back into fishing about four years ago and I'm probably more addicted to it then I ever have been before in my life. This spring will be my first year of flyfishing and I can't wait to start targetting steelhead, salmon, and trout for the first time. I can't wait to talk to you guys and gals, to learn stuff from you all and maybe help someone if need be, and maybe get together and do some fishing.

Re: Newbie

Thanks for the welcoming, once the weather starts to warm up and the snow and ice starts to thaw out I'll be able to go out fishing and give you some fishing reports. I don't have an auger or shanty, otherwise I'd be out there ice fishing, but oh well. Guess I'll just have to wait until mid-March.

Re: Newbie

I thank you all for the warm welcomes, certainly a lot warmer then the temperature outside. Been holding at the 20s at best for highs and single digits to about 10 degrees above for lows. So is most of the people on here from the U.K.? Seems like it, which is cool because I do like reading up on the fishing over there.

Re: Newbie

A lot warmer than here mate, would love to have it in the 20's here!(As long as it's 20C)

I think there's a fair few from the US, but most are from UK.

What do you catch cats on out there?

Michigan...home of the Michigan Blue Back Pheasant...high flying birds hard to hit with a 12 gauge!

Glad to see you are a fellow Fly Fisherman. Would love to come over and fish the great lakes and the surrounding rivers, but just a dream fo me.

Look forwad to reading your questions and fly fishing exploits.

Re: Newbie

Old Smoothhound, I love fishing the Great Lakes. I live close to Lake Erie and that's where I primarily fish, that and an inland lake here in Michigan. Its pretty rare that I get to fish any of the other Great Lakes, mainly because I would have to get a couple or so days off work to do some traveling, sight seeing, and mostly fish.
Norfolkboy, been in the 20's Fahrenheit here, I sure wish it was 20 Celsius, it would mean no snow, ice or cold. It would also mean I'd be doing some serious fishing. We catch a lot around here. Between the couple or so spots I fish I can catch carp, flathead cats, channel cats, yellow bullhead, yellow perch, bluegill, pumpkinseed, walleye, sauger, saugeye, muskie, northern pike, rock bass, white bass, white perch, largemouth bass, small mouth bass, just to name a few. If I were to drive to a good enough spot I can also get steelhead and a couple other things.
