Thumbs up RetiredPete

New boy writes: Just about to retire to Grimsby area. Had a sea rod for years(still in plastic wrapper!) Got the gear no idea.
Where's a good place to start?

Re: RetiredPete

what rod is it fella ? your rod and reel will ultimately determine what kind of fishing you are gonna get up on the east coast .
Local tackle shops / angling clubs and forums like this are always good ports of call and once you know what your planning on catching and what type of fishing you want to do i will try and help you as much as i can.

painfull as it sounds you might have to let the moths free Pete

do you plan on just general shore fishing from piers and harbour walls or the open beaches ?
Theres some pretty reasonable kit out there for a bargain .. it's just a matter of spending as much or little as you want ...just remember it's a false economy to buy crap and then have to upgrade it 6 months later !
I would imagine for starting off you 'pier rod' ( i assume its about 9ft ? ) should be fine so just match it with a decent sized reel and 18lb line and your nearly there .

Re: RetiredPete

As I'm still living just outside Amesbury and you in Salisbury where do you suggest as a good shop. Moving to Grimsby gives me Pier, beach and boat.

Im just over at Old Sarum new houses mate....
theres nothing really much kop local .. the bike shop in Amesbury has some kit but its not too cheap as far as i remember.
John Eadies in Salisbury is much the same so online might be a better option ..
If you want a spool of line and stuff plus some weights just gimme a knock
