Never fished before. Hi all, my name is Steve, and i have been invited to fish in scotland next year, so i have been out and bought a really cheap spinning rod, but i have no idea of what hooks or floats i will need, i think we are fishing for Salmon and Trout, but, saying that i would like to get some practise in first, and would like to try river, or canal fishing, so, any help would be greatly appreciated, please bear in mind, i have never fished before in my life, so the simpler the better, many thanks.

Re: Never fished before. I think if you are after trout and salmon you have been thrown in right at the deep end and if you are spinning you wont need floats or for that matter hooks ! just plenty of spinners and other artificial lures .. If you wanna try your local for a shot at perch and pike then visit the tackle shop and ask for a couple of plugs or pike lures ..its pretty basic mate, cast it out and retrieve at different speeds and over as much of the water as you can cast. If you can find out what area you are fishing some of the local boys might be able to advise you more ![]() Steve __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: Never fished before. christ mate you do need help lol ! where did you purchase the spinning rod from and what made you choose that type of rod in the first place ? Spinners are small metal fish shaped lures with a hook on the end that are meant to imitate a small shoal or bait fish ..you cast out - wind it back in and hope a bigger fish chases it and scoffs it on the way past . This is a method used for catching both trout and salmon but i know the latter can literaly take years worth of effort to hook.. I assume you have a fishing reel to go with the rod ? ![]() Also , who invited you to fish ? are they fisherfolk already and could't they guide you a little ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: Never fished before. Hi again, i bought the rod because of how cheap it was in Bridlington, its a Fladen charter/Powerstick 8ft, complete with spinning reel, if that helps. I'm going with a guy who has fished for a few year now, but, i really want to do it on my own, or rather, with some outside help on the basics of fishing, i dont want to be asking him every two minutes, whats that?, whats this?, what do i do now?, and all that stuff, so any basic help would be appreciated, if i do enjoy it, then, i will look into buying books and dvd's, and really go for it.
