Yet another newbie needing help thread Hello everyone, before I start asking questions ill introduce myself. Im phil as the name would suggest, im 29 and I live in liverpool. I used to fish loads when I was younger, I lived in Australia so I used to beach fish as well as sea fish. When I moved back to the UK I carried on with float fishing in the Leeds Liverpool canal. I stopped when I was 15 when beer and girls came along. So now im 29, I have three kids and my missus is pregnant with a fourth. I need a release to get away from her nagging and moaning so fishing it is. So my first question.... I plan on fishing the canal again plus a few other places such as (I might spell this wrong) Cartmell dam?. There is also a small private pond which I have permission to fish in near to me. I have no kit what so ever, I havent even yet applied for my rod licence. So firstly, how do you get a rod licence now? can you still go the post office or is it online? Secondly, I dont have a massive budget but I want all the kit, rods reels, tackle, seat box, rests nets etc etc. Does anyone know some cheap sneaky shops (nothing dodgy mind) and also what would the experienced fisher suggest is best (rod type). I know its not the best name but I used to own some shakespear stuff and it was fine so I would like to use them again unless they really are rubbish. Well Im sure you are all bored now, thanks for reading now fire me some replies :)

Re: Yet another newbie needing help thread Hi phil, welcome to the forum. Slot of the fishing gear you will need all depend on the type of fish that you will be maily going after. If it's carp at long range then a rod with a 2 3/4 test cure chubb do a rod called "outcast" very good rods. Also if itsna resoviour that your fishing then there might be some nice pike in which case the cubb rods are fine. If your fishing for silver or tenh the a multi rod that will do flaot fishing and feeder fishing. A good place to look for combo deals are Fish tech Glasgow angling centre Dragon carp Good luck tj

Re: Yet another newbie needing help thread Welcome Phil. Ok, firsts first, you get what you pay for simple as that. And the best place to get half decent tackle for a decent price is off Ebay. i know it does the local tackle shops no favours but it really is worth it. Also Shakespere in all my experience with them has always been positive, so no worries there! Rod wise, i would just get a match rod, if you will be fishing the waggler and match reel to go with it, It's your best bet. All the rest is pretty standard although some people may disagree. Let me know if you need more help. Justin __________________ Blackwater Tackle Supplies Keep Ulster's Waters Healthy, Practice Catch and Release!

Re: Yet another newbie needing help thread firstly thankyou to both people who have posted above, but I am now already lost lol. I have forgotten more than I ever learnt lol. Im not really sure yet what I will be fishing for tbh, I will be fishing the canal mostly so I thought a match rod would suffice. I was looking through the old threads before and found one regarding a shakespear mach 3, sounds about right but would this really do the job that I want. Im sorry also but I dont know what a waggler is yet lol, Im still reading. The small pond I mentioned is used by a few select anglers but I am so shiny new I dont even know what it stocks. It would appear that I should do some more research on what fish I am likely to be fishing for prior to investing. Thanks again though people

Re: Yet another newbie needing help thread ok so the canal by me has Tench, Bream,Roach,Perch,Rudd and Eels. They are all quite small in size so the match rod will be fine will it not? I really thought there was carp in it too though however I am usually wrong

Re: Yet another newbie needing help thread The match rod should be fine, there maybe are a few carp in it too and its maybe the case some people want to keep it quiet! __________________ Blackwater Tackle Supplies Keep Ulster's Waters Healthy, Practice Catch and Release!

Re: Yet another newbie needing help thread superb thanks mate, i just need to find a rod and the rest of the gear now. Its going to be difficult though as I have just had to buy a new car due to the impending arrival. Gone is my super fast 5 seater and now I have a 7seater. I might just get some really cheap stuff to get me started, Ive seen some rods and reel combos on ebay for about £30 such as this one. I cant say enough how this would be a temporary measure. I do plan on splashing out next month. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Grandslam-Des-...item3a5aa0f7c4
