| Re: Info needed The Shambles is fished on the drift either accross the main bank or along its full length and tackle normally consists of a 12/20lb class uptider or similar rod witha reel of about 7000 size.. For the flatties you want to fish a running ledger consisting of a 4-6 foot clear mono trace ( i use 25lb amnesia ) with a strong aberdeen pattern hook around the 2-3/0 size , a plastic tubo boom and enough lead to keep your gear tapping and keeping in contact with the bottom - this is THE most important rule when drifting the banks - always pay out line when needed and "feel" your lead tapping along the bank , otherwise your bait will plane up in the tide and the only thing you will hook are mackerel ! Bait wise , Turbot and Brill are taken mainly on live eel though a few fish are caught on ragworm by anglers hunting the plaice .. A half fillet of mackerel cut lengthways again and hooked once through the meaty end will also produce some decent fish and is a popular method on the Kidney bank for some huge Blonde rays .. In the summer months of June and July you can drift the banks using baited feathers for the summer run of codling that show on the bank each year - Bass are there in numbers and again best best is a live sandeel or small joey mackerel fished on a portland rig .
