Newbie Hi. After spending most of last summer indoors partly due to the weather and various dev projects i have decided this year i want to really find a good outdoor hobby that i can enjoy for years to come. A few years ago i remember fishing at a camp site in france and thoroughly enjoyed it. Also as my current girlfriend is very fond of spending hours sitting and lying in the sun reading i found fishing to be perfect as something i can do while we are out. Unfortunately as i only spent a few hours fishing a number of years ago i have remembered NOTHING about it, i think i could get the hang of casting again but know little about anything else. I have applied for my fishing license and have a budget of around 100-150 pounds to get started. Could anyone please recommend a collection of basic starter gear for me? also i am from the Birmingham/Solihull are of the midlands so if anyone could reccomend some places to go to practise would be great. thank you.

Re: Newbie hello mate welcome to the forum there many good deals to be had on the internet these days but i would recommend a good tackle dealer, they can help you no end and kit you out with gear that will last , have you any friends who fish ? it certainly would help if you could tag along with somebody while you are picking up the skills you will need dont be afraid to ask on here,no question is stupid , the only stupid question is the one you don't ask best of luck mate

Re: Newbie Welcome to the forum fella ! Your best option would be to look for a local club in your area as the social side , local places to fish , pals to fish with are worth the weight in gold. with regards to beginners kit , you will deffo need the obvious - a rod and reel - which type will depend on wether you intend to carp fish/fish the lakes and canals etc,.. A landing net, a keepnet , rod rest, and a tackle box or something like a shakespeare beta box to sit on are all essentials too .. places like Argos do the whole lot in a big kit as do places like Glasgow angling centre .. Im sure some of the coarse lads will guide you more thoroughly into whats what . Ill be sure to get back to you when i have that stuff sorted :) any other recommendations about good places to get started like differences between different types of fishing etc, bearing in mind i live in the city in the midlands. Also what do you think i should start with as ive just looked on various sites and came across the option of like 4 types of rods to choose from and i dont have a clue. ty
