Does fishing make you feel closer to nature?

Hi

I have two motives for joining first is purely self interest in that I have a degree project to finish. It's hopefully a subject of interest to the group and it has nothing to do with marketing and advertising or any other agenda. Its not a moral crusade I would simply like to know if whether what you do chiefly in 'nature' makes you feel closer to 'nature'. For instance do fishermen feel closer to nature than surfers, are carnivores closer than vegetarians.

The second I would like to include points of view from people involved in fishing in my results, hopefully its something that some of you have some interest in. This is part of a pilot project and your points of view will help to shape the way the project moves forward. I'll send results of what I find out once the works complete.

However time is running out and to make it meaningful I do need you to fill out a quick online questionaire. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Closeness_to_NatureIt takes only 3-4 minutes maximum and its only a matter of selecting options. No hard work required!

I look forward to hearing your points of view.

I've asked permission to do this but had no reply so I'm assuming that I've not been told no and that they're too busy to reply.

Re: Does fishing make you feel closer to nature?

Thanks for doing the survey.

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas on what they get out of fishing, do you prefer fishing in a more natural setting rather than just a big pond, or vice versa.

Do you think that because you're focusing on the environment in such a way that helps you judge what's best for fishing that this makes you more aware of other things.

As I say I don't know but I suspect that these things are factors worth considering.

With fishing you presumably tune in at varying level of intensity throughout

Total peace, the sound of the water or its stillness, wanting and waiting for that take, watching the tip off your rod tap tap, the fight with the fish, what is it, oh my god look at the size of it, great day for the boat rod bends over oh my god look at the size off that, or a blank but you go back because you know youve caught before and you will catch again but you blank again and you still go back and FISH ON. Hope that helped, thats how i feel. Tight lines

As I have said in many other threads, I prefer to fish in remote places close to nature withs lots of tree cover and not a car in sight. Its all about sitting next to the pond/lake/river or wherever be it i fish that day and enjoying the surrounding and the general joy of fishing weather I catch or not. Like paul said, we will alyays go back coz you have caught before and you will again but just coz its peaceful.

I will fish open waters like purpose made lakes that are packed with fish just coz I know 99% of the time I will catch and I will tend to go there on a meet and for a buzz and to meet new people.

Tight lines

Re: Does fishing make you feel closer to nature?

Ok my friend. I will try and put this into context as I feel it.
If its a sea breeze rustling my hair and beard and I am looking out to this great expance of water,, I am close to natures arms. I am watching the birds. Where are they feeding ? what are they feeding on. What is the moon cycle and how high or low will the tide be and at what times. What mushroom food have I been fed at the local tackle shop by those that have only heared andwhat can I see. I look to what nature tells me. The worm casts at bottom low. The whitebait swimming just off shore line andthe herring gullsfeeding themselves on them. I look at the water temperature. feel it taste it. All of this is what nature alone can provide.
If nature tells me the time is right. The freezer gets emptied of bait and the new wife goes without.

If I am by a proper lake or river. The expance of water may not be as great but nature is still there to guid me. The ripples on the surface where the water goes shallow. the spread of bubbles that lets me know that a Tench is on the feed.

The Robin that comes right up close for the chance of a free maggot or two to take back to its nest. The flash of bright colour as a kingfisher flies by or the plop of a watervole hunting for dinner.
Any angler who does not feel close to this is just a human out to catch fish.
I think can say that this covers most of uson this forum. Lads n Lasses Let me knowif I am wrong but I reckon we are all close, reliant, and lovers of natue. Quote me or this if you wish didiman and I wish youwell. Your question are we close to nature

Without mother nature. we would not enjoy what we do.
