Hello from Washington State I am new to this forum. I am from Washington state in the US pacific northwest region. I fish for just about anything that bites. Been fishing since I could hold a fishing pole. I grew up in the Southeast US so I fished for bass and catfish mostly. Where I am now we fish mainly for salmon and trout. I look forward to passing along some knowledge to fellow anglers and learning tips and tactics from others. ![]()

Re: Hello from Washington State Hi FiL. Some of us in the UK envy you the fishing you have on offer there. We came out for a month to Spokane in 1979 and I managed a bit of fishing, but not as much as I would have liked, since the wife was along on the trip. I fished the Spokane and Pend Oreille rivers for trout and whitefish that summer, but we had a trip for lake trout in Idaho cancelled when the lakes flooded. I always wanted to get back there to fish for winter steelhead, but never made it. Now I'm 65 I doubt I'd be able to stand up to the weather conditions either. My wife's cousin still lives near where we stayed in Spokane, but I doubt we'll visit them again, which is a pity. Good luck on your trips and post a picture if you get a big, fresh-run fish.

Re: Hello from Washington State We have some very different species, although we do share Pike, Perch and Carp. By the wau, when I was in the US I found that many US anglers have a very different approach to carp than we do. __________________ Ignore the margins at your peril

Re: Hello from Washington State Trust me you are walking on very thin ice mentioning the eating of carp on here :) Welcome aboard. UK fishing breaks down in to three major groups. Sea, game and coarse. Sea anglers spend their time either fishing off the shore or on boats. Trawling and over exploitation have left the seas somewhat less well populated than they were. Most people bait fish though artifical plugs and lures, feathers and rubber baits are used in the summer. Where the water has good visibility kayak and fly fishing are catching on (no pun intended). Game fishing is mainly fly with some lure , worm and shrimp, mainly for trout and salmon. Coarse fishing is probably the biggest branch as it involves fishing for all the non-game species we have here. Main groups are probably carp, predator and silver fish. Predator fishing is a mix between artificials and bait fishing.Carp and silver fish are very much bait fishing. This takes place in the rivers, canals , lakes , ponds and just about any bit of water that even MIGHT have fish in it. As for taking fish to eat. Sea fish taste better so most take one or two for the pot though there is a greater movement towards catch and release than ever . Game fishers tend to take from waters that are stew reared stockings and some from the wild though catch and release is more prevalent here too these days. Coarse fishermen almost without exception operate catch and release. There is a considerable amount of bad feeling at the moment as we are pretty unique in doing this in europe . Unfortunately this does not seem to have fed through (or they don't care) to some of the people from over the channel and tensions are running high on this issue. Take a carp and eat it here and you might well find yourself in an awkward position (well if you call having your rod rammed down your neck awkward). Fishermen here, like all over the world, are generally a friendly and generous bunch though so say hi if you are ever here. This is one of the friendlist forums you could come across. It's been running for a few years and rarely sees any of the sniping and in-fighting on some other forums (though by no means all). Again , welcome aboard. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk
