Hello All advice required...

I am relatively new to fishing, and have just bought my first beach caster & fix spool reel. I went for a Penn Powerstix Pro 13' with a Penn Surfmaster 850. I have a question regarding the rod. When pushing the blanks together, the sections go tight with about about 25mm before being pushed fully home. Is this normal as I didnt want to force the section together for fear of damage or not being able to get them apart. Help please....

Also down in Port Talbot next week for a few days. Can anyone recommend a good bait shop nearby and places to fish.

Re: Hello All advice required...

Hi Bobsdad,

Welcome to the Forum.

If you purchased them from a local dealer, then take your rod back and ask his advice. Without seeing the rod it is difficult to give an opinion.

I have purchased rods before that haven't gone all the way into the socket but in my own opinion they were OK as far as I was concerned. You are the only person who can decide if the rod is A1.

Sorry that I can't be more helpful.

Regards

Drew

Re: Hello All advice required...

alot of rods now have this gap between joints( i took one back as thought wrong)
25mm seems quite big though
as long you feel rod is solid at joint should be ok, you could gently emery joint down to fit better, just be gentle to save overdoing

Re: Hello All advice required...

Drew - Pingu, Thanks for the response & help. I checked again last night and the gap is only about 10mm.
Cheers

Re: Hello All advice required...

hello bobsdad welcome regarding your rod i think you will find it is made with the gap as both my rods are one is a ziplex & a diawa tdpk. this is for wear as time goes by you will find the gap will get smaller. if it butted up tight as it wears it would become lose at the joint and you start to get a wobble. there are some carbon or fibreglass paints that will rebuild the joint.

Re: Hello All advice required...

the gap is to allow wear and tear if it gets too loose rub with candle wax on the male part (the bit that inserts) that should sort out any wobble

Re: Hello All advice required...

Hi, if rod is stiff at joints mate DO NOT push hard together as you will have a nightmare getting them apart worse with wet hands worse again your hands slip and you damage your rod or get one of those eyes stuck in your hand ive seen that happen. Over time they will free up just join male and female nice and gently and no more. If a rod is to easy to join together good advice given rub a candle on male end and dont use whole candle just enough all your looking for is a nice snug fit. Word to the wise tackle shops sell rods and alot of them dont fish. I sent you a private message but if this tip helps anyone else great. Good advice given. Stud.
