| Hi. advice needed. Hi. im ken. need a hobby and golf doesnt do it for me. so fishing may be the answer. i live near the wye but dont know if standing in the river in some waders is what i want. sitting around enjoying the wildlife, etc. as much as the fishing, is probably more me. so what type of rod . they all seem to be,carp rods or some other species type rod. is there a rod that is a all rounder till you know what appeals to you. cheers. |

| Re: Hi. advice needed. Not a freshwater angler myself but i would recommend getting a fairly cheap ( 50ish) rod and reel combo. Then try your hand at float fishing for small fish and see if you enjoy it. If you do then you can upgrade your gear when it is necessary but if you find its not for you then you have not wasted too much cash ![]() __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!! |

| The Wye is a big river with some cracking fish in it Ken. I'd recommend getting an avon type rod & a mid range fixed spool reel with a few swimfeeders to start off with. Best bet tho is pop down your local tackle shop & ask their advice on bits of tackle you'll need & also licenses you'll need as well. Heres a quick list of the bits you'll need: Landing net,rod & reel obviously, chair, rod rest, rod license from the EA,license to fish the water your on,tackle box, various weights of swimfeeder ( see this thread for an explaination swimfeeders ) various weights, hooks, disgorger for unhooking fish.... thats for starters & after you catch your 1st few fish you'll end up spending a fortune on fishing like the rest of us ![]() ![]() Hope that helps?
