Hi, I have just got back into carp fishing after nearly two years out and i have started to fish a lake of around 30 acres and dosent see, to have many features. It is around 14ft throughout the whole lake which all seems to be silt on the bottom and has fairly shallow margins with some large read beds and is surrounded by overhanging Rhodadendron bushes. It dosent seem to get fished a lot as there is not really a large head of carp but they go to about 35 - 40 lb! These fish seem to be very shy and they rarly show themselves. I have had 4 fish over 20, the biggest being 26lb so far but they all seem to be from the margins. There are also a lot of bream in the lake which seem to be a nuisence, although keep me accupied through out the day! I fish with a basic bolt rig set up but it is not proving to be very succesful, is there any help from anybody? Would be much appreciated, Thanks!

Re: Help please!!! I would take into account the wind directions, for the previous few days too. Also if bolt rigs are not so successful then changing might work. I did read that on silty lakes, fishing 'in the silt' often worked, not too sure about this. Perhaos trying some unusual baits. With regard to bream, I fished for carp on the river medway in Kent, where the bream were a complete nightmare, and what worked, was fishing a 3 boilie hair rig. tying the stop at the end of the three onto the hair just above the first boilie, this made the bait too big for the bram to get into their mouths, but fine for the carp.

Re: Help please!!! Try fishing the margins or under hanging trees. Use hard baits like boilies tiger nuts and brazil nuts if ur aloud. Try fishing over a prebaited swim. Use a running ledger for less resistance and anti eject rigs. Have you tryed a night session and pop up baits.

Thanks guys! I cant fish nights unfortunately as the rules dont permit this but the best times of the day seem to be early morning and late afternoon! I have had a couple of my fish on pop ups, is there a good pop up rig you could suggest? would a chod rig be any good?

Re: Help please!!! i fished a lake that was really silty and didnt catch a thing untill i changed my aproach and went on the waggler fishing about two and a half feet deep ,i would follow the advice of ben lee and pre bait your swim a few hours before you start as this will draw them in
