| Re: New member needs help fish the high tides ,the flagpole section is a long haul but it gets you clear of the tinsel chuckers! opposite the lifeboat houses at abbotsbury is a wreck of a lancaster bomber that holds fish. |

| Re: New member needs help Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to having a go next week. As a total novice I fear I might be a Tinsel chucker at least for a while. What bait and metods would you suggest? Sorry to be a pain but I guess we all have to start somewere |

| Re: New member needs help Kevin, so much to learn.. so little time... Will assume you know nothing about sea. read all the safety tips about Chesil & believe them, if it's big wave time, wave it bye bye & fish somewhere safer. For chesil you will need. Tripod (rod rest) Rod (beachcaster) Reel (start with fixed spool) Fish at night for best results, unless near Portland & you want triggers. line 15 - 18 lb shockleader 60lb weights 4-6 oz hooks 2 - 1/0 on flapper rigs 1/0 - 3/0 or bigger on pulleys tip lights (to see rod move at night). Bait - mackerel catch youself on feathers is cheapest but not guaranteed. Frozen squid, mack (fresh is far better), worm, possible crab available all tackle shops. Easiest way is to go to a tackle shop - like Weymouth Angling or Dennings and let them kit you out (tell them how much you want to spend). they can tell you where to fish, when and what with. Believe Portland Johns website covers Chesil nicely - have a look at that. Loads of info around if you do some searches. Would appreciate it you post a report back here, especialy if the sea bug bites .Best of luck. __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:> |

Welcome to the Forum. I've always found Chesil to fish well at all states of the tide during Summer. Weymouth angling Centre or Dennings tackle on the Portland road for good bait. Don't get any bait from the Tackle Shop in West Bay. It's usually rubbish.Ragworm & Sand Eel should sort you out some fish & obviously Mackerel which should be easy to catch on feathers. Good luck. ![]() __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
