Newbie needs help.

Hi all, I've just started Pike fishing and was advised by a friend who has been doing it for a while to get some wire traces. Now I feel really stupid asking this question but how does one go about setting these up. I am currently using spinners, so do I attach the spinnner to one end and my line to the other? Should i be using a different method of casting? As when I look at wire traces I am asure that the loops and clips will catch on the eyes of the rod.

Thanks in advance, and please go easy on me

Re: Newbie needs help.

hi m8,

yes pike have sharp teeth & will cut through nylon unless extremely high bs.

for spin fishing most as far as i know use a spin trace made up of 20-25lbish
nylon coated wire line, about 12-18inches long, at one end there's a plain swivel and t'other holds a swivel with a link to attach the lure to &make changeing lure easy.
these can be bought at most tackle shops.

its just a short biteing trace to prevent your lure getting chewed off & so shouldnt need to pass through the rod rings however if your worried about accidently winding it in too far and damageing the rod rings it fit a buffer bead just large enough to stop the plain swivel passing through the tip eye.
