First Time on Big Hayes Lake Hello, Im new to this website and was wondering if anyone could give me some tips and the recommend the best swims at Big Hayes Lake at Todber Manor. Any info would be great. I am fishing the lake this weekend from Friday morning to sunday night. Is it worth spodding?? Have been told not to over bait it and maybe just use PVA bags. Any response would be brilliant. Many Thanks, Gary

Re: First Time on Big Hayes Lake Hi Gary, Welcome to the Forum. I could point you in the right direction for sea angling but not freshwater. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold Secretary of The Blandford Sea Angling Club

Re: First Time on Big Hayes Lake Hi Gary, I would try for a island peg and as for spoding, if you do, don't over do it, personally i would use PVA bags, one more thing use their own boilies, they are around £12.00 for a kilo but they work very well. They are called "Red factor." Have fun. regards, Steve __________________ Born to fish made to work

Re: First Time on Big Hayes Lake Thanks for getting back to me everyone. Steve, you mentioned i should fish on a island swim. I have been told by my local tackle shop not to fish an island swim as they are very weedy, is this not the case?? I no it is very difficult to say but do you think there is a chance of some fish this time of year?? I fished Oxlease Lake in Oxford this time last year but didnt even have a run, which was the case with all other people on the lake. I no that there are alot of fish in this lake though. What other species are stocked in this lake as i will be fishing 2rods for carp and a third rod for any other species.

Re: First Time on Big Hayes Lake The lake is stocked with carp and very there is agood head of fish. I found the weed in the lake wasn't to bad, it more like a fine weed, but at around 10 ft of the island i found some clear spots. I would use pop ups, the best advice is from the guys in the tackle shop, they will put you right as it is in their best interest. because there are fixed pegs the lakes and they are not crammed in,as other lakes are as mentioned they tend to be full every day, but big hayes is full but not as many people on there. if you are there for a couple of days i would start of easy, maybe using stringers or choddy bags, see how they responed as for depth it is much of a same at around 5ft. Me personally I would aim for a fearture and this time of year an Island is a option. hope this helps. Regards, Steve __________________ Born to fish made to work

Re: First Time on Big Hayes Lake One More thing, If you wan't other fish then maybe you might want to fish Wadmill, as they have a good selection of different size fish, from bream to tench, and carp upto 25lb. but be prepared for a busy day. ![]() __________________ Born to fish made to work
