looking for advice

Hi all!
Not new to fishing but to be honest with you all i really never had any good advice on getting started at first so just did what i thought was right and never cought a thing, this put me off altogether for a while then I was asked if I facied going lake fishing for chub with a friend who new what he was doing, he set me up and within minutes I was away! my first ever fish cought it was brilliant.
I have not had much time with work etc to get much in so decided to try my hand off the harbour wall at bridlington with my son (11 years old) we have both had a great time and are now really hooked (pardon the pun) we did only catch flat fish but had a great time doing it, what I would really like now is some tips on where to sea fish (sorry but have a tender stomach and can't do boat fishing tried it twice :-( )
also some sugestions for rod reels and rigs.
got a 12ft beach caster rod with standard fixed spool reel, was wondering what was the difference to a multiplex reel and are they hard to handle.
