hi all, wondered if you could give me a few tips on rigs for beach fishing. ill be fishing off seaford bay a few times over the summer, but have no idea on what rig to use. ive been told a few different species lurk along that stretch of coast so i need something of an allrounder. i would like to buy ready made rigs first until ive got used to them to make my own, so any names to buy ie paternoster rig etc etc. also what are these "preserved" baits like on ebay, or shall i use the local fish monger?? cheers for any help drak.

Re: new beach angler alright mate, and welcome to the forum my heamophagic friend. I've tried thr preserved baits once or twice but have found the only work when the fish are really on the feed. you could use your local fishmonger for bait but I prefer to get mine from a tackle shop or get it myself from the beach using a pump. what rigs to use? the choice is yours depending on what you are after but more important is how you present the bait on your hooks and what hook size you use. worms should be threaded up the hook and on to the line so that the bent, sharp bit of the hook is completely exposed. you could use a bit of squid, limpet etc to tip off with and bait elastic to hold everything in place. squid, peeler crab other bits of fish and even chicken skin can be skewered on to your hook in the same way and held in place to keep the pointy bit exposed with elastic. try starting with a paternoster or a flapper rig. when you first start it can take ages to bait up and i found it better to use snap swivels and have your next rig baited up ready while your first one was in the sea, that way you can just wind in, snap the new baited rig on and cast out again and bait up the first rig again while you wait. the extra time you spend with bait in the water is massively important when you need the motivation of a catch. I have since used this technique match fishing with 2 rods and it really works

Re: new beach angler welcome to the forum drak, my brother fishes the area quite a bit (still trying to persuade him to sign up on here). think he prefers pevansey, but does the whole stretch & i.o.w quite a few times a year. will ask him if he knows the best areas to fish from. i don't know much about sea fishing, so will leave it to the other guys for advice on rigs etc. __________________ www.mobilespanner1.co.uk
