| Hello from Corsica Hi everyone, Just a quick intro and a few questions. I'm and Aussie living in Corsica for 12 months, and love my fishing. I'm not familiar with fishing the Mediterranean and it's pretty damn hard finding any decent info in English. I've tried sand worms (recommended by the local tackle shop) from the rocks and managed to drag in 3 small wrasse. I've seen locals fisho's with floating bread balls.....watched them for about an hour and they caught noth'n. Just wondering about lures from the rocks. The water is pretty cold at the moment so I'm guessing there's not many active fish at the moment. Any ideas what I'm likely to catch from the rocks at the moment (apart from wrasse) and as the waters get warmer. I usually fish the esturies back in Australia using soft plastics like gulp jerk shads etc with great success. The tackle shop here in Calvi doesn't sell plastics so I'm assuming they either don't work well over here or they haven't discovered them yet. I've ordered some online and will give it a shot. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated. Plus any info on what fish are good to keep and eat and what I should be chuck'n back. Cheers Hammo. |

| Re: Hello from Corsica Hi Hammo - welcome ! I used to fish in the Med when I was posted to Cyprus - not sure how it compares to where you are but I used calamari both whole and in strips - Moray eels love it but you have to heave them out fast or you are in for a tug of war if they anchor themselves in a crevice. Banded Bream also take squid but are very fussy and I used light freshwater tackle, size 8 hooks on a running ledger. think you will find Mullet in nearly all of the Med. Harbours - the locals in Cyprus used floating crust freelined from a pole - good fun ! Good luck ! __________________ I found this beautiful winter poem and thought it might be a comfort to you. hope that you enjoy it too. | Re: Hello from Corsica Thanks fella's for the welcome and replies. ![]() Doug, if it ever stops snowing (i'm living 1000m up in the mountains - bloody cold!) I'll get down to the rocks and give calamari a go. I might also try prawns, lures and soft plastics and post a report in the international fishing section. Snow is forecast for the next 10 days so it might be while before I post. Cheers Hammo. |

| Re: Hello from Corsica BTW if I have a report on this area (Corsica) where should I post. Just noticed there's not southern Europe section in Int. fishing - South France, Italy, Corsica, Spain, Sardina etc, or have I just miss something altogether. |
