have returned to fishing after 12 year gap ... wow it's changed!!!

hi all,
after a 12 year gap, i've started fishing again, might even sell my drag car, at least fishing is cheaper lol.
i'm what you would call a cast out & see what bites fisher person, not bothered what i catch, but not into the specimin or hardcore carp fishing.
living in crawley, i'm limited with where i can fish, i can'treally justify the costs of joining clubs because of the amount of fishing i do (unless i decide i want to fish at more venues) & for the cost of the petrol to get to uckfield & back, i can fish the river uck, either at the bottom of my parents, or a couple of other places i know that isn't controlled by any clubs.
just got my future brother in law into fishing too, only been a few times, but he's thoroughly enjoyed himself.

Re: have returned to fishing after 12 year gap ... wow it's changed!!!

thanks guys.
it's hard to get round all the developments, few years ago, it was just a case of getting a rod (if clever, then different rods for different types of fishing), lure, float or ledger, lake or river & away you go.
now it's different floats for different surfaces & venues, pole & carp rods, reels, carp fisheries, all round fisheries, (not much reference to river & canal fishing) the list goes on ...
at least 1 of the guys at work is explaining these things.
hopefully i'll be able to learn a lot more from here too.

Welcome to the forum Ewan.
Quite a few anglers are enjoying the retro scene and using old equipment now. I re ringed a 20yr old beachcaster last year, there are better rods around now but even if I catch less fish, I will still have enjoyed using it.
Good luck with whatever weapons you choose.

Re: have returned to fishing after 12 year gap ... wow it's changed!!!

Welcome to the forum and welcome back to fishing. I think today there are so many choices out there for all different types of fishing, to behonest i am terrible as a tackle tart, but to be honest you dont need to worry to much if your just getting back into the fishing, the basics are still the same, just make certain that the tackle is balanced. I have just bought a second hand rod that 12 years ago cost a fortune but buying it know it cost me £20, so looking for specialist rods can be easy and cheap if you are happy with secondhand rods, as long as they have been looked after they should last years.

Re: have returned to fishing after 12 year gap ... wow it's changed!!!

hi guys,
somehow, i managed to lose my rods, including my very old beachcaster (only thing of my grandad's i wanted when he died) which i'm gutted about, wasn't so worried about the other rods in my bag. still had all my other tackle though, which was confusing.
ended up getting the zebco carp set from argos last september, i know it's a cheap set & the rods may not be the best, but it's enough to get me started again, & has been fine for fishing at a local lake & the river at my parent's.
want to get out more this year, so want to get a couple of bits to make getting around easier & a guy at work is bringing in some kit he doesn't need, should get something off him that will be usefull.
