| Re: Boat Fishing "otter" a fishing otter there is another fishing otter that poachers used to use called an otter board, when i was a very young lad, i was fishing on a lake for what ever sea trout, brownies, salmon, char. I was in the north of england, when two men approached me one had a sack with some stuff in it. They asked me had i seen any fish jumping i said yes so they tipped out the sack nd knock a stake in the ground. walked about 50 yards away from me and threw some thing in the lake. Then they went away. After a while,i pulled in the line that was attached to the stake, and on the thing they put in the lake and it had two trout attached to some hooks, so i took the trout and went home. I found afterwards that it was called an otter board, it consisted of a circle of wood like a pram wheel , cut in two, two thirds and one piece one third, holes drilled in both halfs along the flat part of the D shapes, and joined together wth round dowels, so that the two D`S were about 8" apart, but one D bigger than the other below the water line.On to dowels are fixed baited hooks, on nylon droppers about 12" long.. with the wind blowing off shore, and this otter board, with one D bigger than the other the smaller one nearest to the shore, the wind will make it drift in slow 50 yard cicle, you can hardly see it in the water. they come along next day and collect the fish. A very illegal method |

I always wondered what you meant when you said you only used traditional methods when fishing for Trout Pete.... ![]() __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: Boat Fishing "otter" They use them a lot over here - mainly trolled from a boat with about 10 - 15 flies attached. No sport involved but if your hungry.......... __________________ I found this beautiful winter poem and thought it might be a comfort to you. hope that you enjoy it too. | Re: Boat Fishing "otter" Just saw this post, I have only seen these things whilst in norway on holiday. They fished with them even thought it stated that they were not permitted. they just trolled them behind a boat and pulled in a trout every now and then, there isnt much sport to that.
