Re: total beginner with no idea!!

Paul you are probally better off starting on piers or quays , just to get the feel of the equiptment you are using , and targeting little species with a worm bait , as theres no need to cast very far (in some cases just dropping over the side) , once you feel confident and have a few species under your belt , then hit the shore , and practise your beach casting , that said , you dont really need to wallop it out to be in the fish , hope this helps ,

lee.

Re: total beginner with no idea!!

Thats entirely for you to decide mate , have a look down your local tackle shop , and see whats on offer , you can pick up a cheap fixed spool reel and 12ft rod for around 30 quid (for beachfishing) handle the rods and see what size you think will suit you , i cant tell you what to go for as it will be a preference ,

Re: total beginner with no idea!!

I'd second the advise of starting out on a pier/jetty/quay. I went beachfishing a few weeks back for 4 days an left empty handed.

You've picked a good time apprently later summer/early autumn are very good times to fish without a boat from the shore
