Introducing myself

Hi Guys, I'm new here and new to Sea Fishing in general. I'm male, 30 and am moving to Brighton (Near Preston Park) within the next 2 months.

As I'm new I was wondering if I could possibly ask you all a question?

Seeing as I have a few months untill I move, I would like to start getting some tackle together. I have a subscription to Total Sea Fishing and recently got the Two Boom Scratching Rig and the 50lb Shockleader line but that is absolutely it. I don't even have a rod and reel yet

So in my giddiness at the memories of being a kid and running to the tackle shop for Freshwater gear, I was wondering if anyone here could suggest some stuff for me to get. Obviously I'm aware of the basics like hooks, weights, lures & line, but what weights and sizes should I be looking at?

Initially I'll be shore/coast fishing, hopefully I'll get myself a small boat and start that.

Anyway, I'm Herbie T Hammer - The fanatical Hammers Fan and wannabee fisherman and I offer thee my hand and a beer in greeting.

Cheers

Re: Introducing myself

Welcome Herbie to the best forum on the net!!

Best thing I can think of is if you give the forum some indication of where you live at the moment. I say this because no doubt one of us will live near you. This could help as it may be possable for someone to hook up with you and help with your purchase. This of course depends on your age eg meeting up with strangers etc.

Start a new thread on the discussion forum stating what type of seafishing you intend to do, eg, Fishing from the beach or from rocks, will you want to do lure/spinning style of fishing, rock hopping etc. Also a good idea to state how much you would be prepared to spend.

This website may also help. Simon is a good friend of the forum and although one busy chap, he is very approchable. Take a look at his site.

One other thing mate. There is only one stupid question to ask on here............and thats the one you don't ask!

Enjoy and once again welcome..............to the best passtime ever.

Re: Introducing myself

welcome to the forum herbie,as the kiwi said this site will improve you as an angler or set you on the right road if your a beginer with the amount of knowledge that is kicking around on the forum.once you move to brighton and decide on the spots you want to fish the there will be (without a doubt) a few lads who will be able to suggest the type of rod, reel, line ect,ect ,and also the best spots (well, sometimes lol) enjoy....kev...................................... .................................................. ..............if people concentrated on the really important things in life ,there would be a shortage of fishing rods

Re: Introducing myself

Welcome aboard Herbie

As the others have said just ask and the help will be there. Nothing is too stupid because we all started out the same way and had to ask the stupid questions so we could improve our fishing.

This forum is the best and most friendliest one out there so you've already made one great choice :)

Re: Introducing myself

Hello Herbie, welcome to the site. I am new here too, there is a wealth of info. and it will only continue to grow! From Minnesota (USA) here, mostly do ice fishing, but have dabbled a bit in the saltwater fishing off of the Florida coast many years ago.
