New member looking for advice....

Hi all

I'm a new member that has just joined the site,I'm based in County Durham....
I used to do a bit sea fishing many years ago,I'm looking to start up fishing again,so really I'm a novice fisherman....I'm looking for advice on which type of fishing to take up,and which fishing would suit me the best....
I live close to the Northeast coastline (Horden,Hartlepool,Seaham,)so I'm thinking of sea fishing....BUT I'm open to suggestions...
Where is the best fishing spots around the areas that I've mention...
Could I ask if there is any decent Fishing tackle shops around the Durham
area....
Would it be better if I buy new equipment and tackle or second hand equipment and tackle...
Also is there many members on here that live around my area, with possible meet ups and advice session on equipment and tackle....
Look forward to hearing your replies....

Many thanks Jamie

Re: New member looking for advice....

Hi Jamie, welcome to the forum.

I was in your position not so long ago. I ended up buying some cheap gear to get myself started sea fishing, just to see if it was for me. Once I realised that I loved the sport, I spent a bit more money on mainly second hand gear, but from people I *KNEW* will have taken good care of it first.

Obviously new is better, but you can spend a *lot* of money on gear and I just can't justify the outlay sometimes.

As for marks, the NE isn't really my area, but we have some top guys from up that way on the forum. I'm sure they won't be long in helping you out.

Have fun.

Re: New member looking for advice....

Hi Jamie,

first of all we have to establish what angling you're going to participate in - sea, coarse, game etc - you don't seem too sure what you want to do.

When we have that established, I'll help you as best I can, I may even be able to throw a bit of tackle your way - rod etc.

I'm a sea angler by the way....

Paul

Re: New member looking for advice....

Hi all

Thanks for the replies,Paul I'm certain that it will be sea fishing that I will take up,with pier and beach fish been my main interest....
I think I would need a rod and reel that will suit both types of fishing,I'm not sure I'd be able to get used to the multiplier reel as I had problems the last time I fished but like I say it was donkey years ago and I was quite young....
Would a fixed spool reel suit me better than a multiplier reel,I'm in yours hands for all the advice that I can get....

Cheers Jamie

Re: New member looking for advice....

Jamie, to start with, a fixed spool will keep your fishing easier, and as you gain more experience and become a little more competent, shall we say, then when you feel ready, you can move onto the multiplier.
Give me a week or so, then we can meet up, have a chat, and do some fishing - I'll get you some kit too - do you have any sea fishing gear?

I mainly fish Seaham Hall beach, Ryhope, Horden etc - so hopefully you won't have far to travel.

Paul
