ant_merseaboy is on a distinguished road
Total fishing newbie

Hi,

I've been wanting to get into fishing for ages now, but had to wait for various other fads to pass before I could afford the time and pennies to get into it proper. And since we bought a motor boat at the end of last year that's now moored off West Mersea in Essex, now seems the right time to get stuck in.

Got a rod for me birthday, and had a fantastic charter trip with Dave Weaving in Feb, now all I need to do is learn how to catch fish on my own...so, are there any Mersea fishermen out there with pointers on where I go from here?!

I'm heading out into the Blackwater early this coming sat morning with my dad and brother in law, all with our shiny new rods...I've done lots of reading up on knots, rigs etc, but what I can't get from books is that valuable local info that turns a fun boat trip into a good lunch as well. I'm looking for fish to eat rather than sport.

Anyway, nice to meet you all and look forward to discussing my huge catch with you after the weekend!

Ant
