| Legal fish sizes for keeping Hi everyone, New to sea fishing and have a few questions if anyone could help. Where can I get a list of legal fish sizes if I want to keep my catch (if I catch!!) upto now just Dabs but what size can I keep as alot around me were keeping small ones? When i catch something worth keeping do i kill it immediatly and gut it or just pop into a bag and do at home which siunds abit cruel to me but againg thats what others were doing around me? How do you gut a flattie? other fish is pretty straight forward but a flattie I not sure? Sorry for all the daft questions but want to learn the correct way and not copy others around me who might not care. Cheers Mark ![]() |

| Re: Legal fish sizes for keeping And to gut a flattie, if you hold it up to a light you should see a dark patch near its head on the opposite side to the eyes. you simply cut out the dark bit as this is its guts. i like that kind because you dont have to reach in and yank out some fish rectum. if you cant see a dark patch just cut out that section somewhere near and you should be able to tell if you have it right if no guts splodge out lol . __________________ "Alright Jack, we all ready to fish?" | Re: Legal fish sizes for keeping Hi all, My policy is, if the fish is not big enough for a meal for 2 people then it goes back. Even if a fish is over the sizeable limit it must be large enough for 2 people. The classic example is Red Gurnard, a great edible fish, but when filleted there is not enough meat in them. | Re: Legal fish sizes for keeping Mark Have a look here, it is a scan of a nice laminated double sided minimum size table that I was given by the fisheries patrol when he stopped us to look at our catch in Portland Harbour. http://www.fishing-forum.info/showth...7224#post77224 Jon __________________ Portland Jon Anyone can catch 'em when they are there.
