Fishing Holiday Help Needed Please

Hi all, me and my old man are traveling up to durham next week and were planning on going fishing while in town. Can any one recomend any good places to fish and what is to be expected to be caught!. We have been looking in sea angler and were thinking of going to either seaham on the beaches or either roker pier in sunderland or of the pier at hartlepool. If you can think of any other more productive spots not to far from these or some info on these places it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Joe

Re: Fishing Holiday Help Needed Please

Hi, it has been over 20 years since I fished Hartlepool pier. Mainly catching ling and whiting and codling during the winter. This was during the day. There was a good beach at Black Hall Rocks, or even fishing off the cliffs at high tide, as there is really deep water - but can't remember where. My ex brother inlaw caught a huge cod of the beach at Blackhall, it was around 34lb - but that was 20 years ago. Any others got any hot marks in the area? Is the pier still there, because I understand that they spent a few million on Jacksons Landing etc ?

Re: Fishing Holiday Help Needed Please

I remember it well! Ditto for me, it's getting on for 20 years for me too. I'm from Blackhall Colliery originally and grew up fishing for cod from the shore. Because so much coal was dumped at sea by the colliery, the fish would move in real close to the beach as it was constantly dark in the water. The cliff at Blackhall Rocks is known as 'The Point' and you could just drop your bait in from the cliff's edge. Blackhall Rocks was superb for crabbing, you could get a bucketful in a short space of time. It was really tackle hungry, we used spark plugs, rather than leads that we'd blag from the local scrappies.

Best person for current advice is Paul from Sunderland, but I haven't seen him on here for a while

Rob

Thumbs up Re: Fishing Holiday Help Needed Please

Also wondered if there was any deep water rock marks that might be worth working a lure or float. just got a look at this months sea angler and fancy giving it a bash! My old man wants to beach fish or pier so any other marks near durham would be much appreciated

Cheers All
