Re: help with multipliers hi Dave welcome to the forum. I certainly wouldn't consider myself an expert, but will post a little advice for you. Being a new starter you may find you get more distance with a long rod (15ft) & a fixed spool reel. It's what i did a couple of years ago & haven't really regreted it. Fishing both clean & rough ground would probabaly require 2 different strengths of line & changing spools on a fixed spool reel takes a few seconds, on a multiplier considerably longer. I haven't attempted it .not sure how a long rod stands up to rough ground, but mine seems OK winching in big lumps of weed from chesil/pagham. Would like to catch a big as the weed doesn't fight very much. There's going to be pro's & cons for all options - am sure others will add some colour to the water. Good Luck __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:>

Re: help with multipliers you do not need a multiplyer as you may wont to use them as you get used to the fixed spool, at least 4 months of fixed, i do a lot of beach casting with a 12 foot rod and it gives me 100 yards,(thats quite a nice cast), i use a large fixed spool reel, the bigger the reel the faster the line will come out = better cast, good luck mate and hope the advice helps

Re: help with multipliers Hi Dave, with practice and if it is correctly set up a multiplier will give you a better cast(in my experience) without practice and having the breaking tuned perfectly you will have much shorter casts of a horrible birds nest. having said that I now no longer dread getting my multiplier out of the bag after 12 or so months of learning. I use a diawa SLO2 and the only down side to it that I can see is the lack of a levelwind which means that you have to lay the line down with your thumb when reeling in. the reel works well for me over rough or flat ground (I use it with a 13ft beachcaster) The first outing I had with the reel was appauling. I only had 2 successful casts in over an hour. the rest of the time was spent unravelling really bad tangles or re-rigging after snapoffs. If you are prepared to suffer for your sport/hobby, go for it. its really satisfying when you finally get it right. THM
