Post Red Mullet

One of the fish that I would love to be able to track down and catch is the Red Mullet.

Have any of you "Mulleteers" any ideas where I can try and catch them and do you have any tips on rigs and bait.

Any kind of help would be very much appreciated.

Re: Red Mullet

I caught my first one last year.

I was fishing in rocks using a peeler/rag combo. Setup was a simple 1 up 1 down (caught on the 1up).

Caught mine early evening if that helps.

Cool Re: Red Mullet

Cheers Simon.

I have heard you can catch them over sandy areas as well as rocks, but I never have yet

Re: Red Mullet

Down this way, you do catch a fair few red mullet. I find blackpool sands produces lots of fish and hopes nose (especially where the sewer is/was)

Ive caught red mullet using basic running ledgers or pulley rigs using small hooks, The best bait being crab or worm. i think with the red mullet, dusk is the best time to catch them, but its all a bit of hit or miss.

Good luck with your quest

Re: Red Mullet

Oh, sorry i forgot, please ignore my last post.

To catch red mullet (top secret), you need a 10/0 hook, with a large fillet of mackerel. No more info available smoothy otherwise you will catch one

Thanks for the info Luke...don't worry i've got other species on my list, but the Red Mullet is a personal goal and nothing to do with the Species Hunt

If I cath one I won't claim for it anyway
