Dolphin quays

I managed a short three hour session this afternoon, first for a while due to kids and weather/tide times.
Venue was Poole Quay,in the marina at Dolphin Quays. The weather was breezy and overcast/rainy,but good tide so I was hopeful of a fish.
Floatfished mackerel flesh on a slider set a few inches off bottom in 13 feet approx water produced two smashing mullet,5lbs 6ozs,and this beauty of 6lbs exactly.
It took me the best part of 20 mins to get the 6lber in,one of the best fights from a mullet ever.beautiful very thick set fish.
Not the best picture(blackberry mobile/random passer by did the honours).
Both taken around low water, first of the flood.
VERY IMPORTANT...If you are going to fish Poole Quay please ensure you have a dropnet as you are as much as 7 to 8 feet above the water level at varying states of tide, and also an unhooking mat as it is all concrete so you don't damage these beauties.
The 6lber in this pic...

Re: Dolphin quays

I had another 4hr seesion last night,it was just one of those nights when you just have to be fishing...not a breath of wind, rainy skies clearing into a lovely sunny evening, the water like a millpond.
Fished over the top of the tide and the run off, started about 5.15pm. Dropped a full groundbait sack to the bottom, and almost straight away it was getting attacked as the rope was shaking and moving. Big oil slicks from the oil coming up and fish particles everywhere.
I was getting pestered by blennies, then I caught a mackerel on the drop, then everything went quiet for an hour or so.
Very little tide movement, just enough to trot the float slowly down close to the wall when it slid away. I lifted into the bite and wow glad I had the clutch set right as it ripped about twenty yards of line, staying deep. I didn't see the mullet for a good 10mins,just deep hard runs, but finally I started to get it to the surface, and managed to get a look, and it was an absolute lump. I just lowered the dropnet down in readiness for what would have been easily lifting a PB up,when disaster struck, the hook pulled.
I sat for a few pondering what it would have weighed, then packed up and made the short walk to the pub,and had a pint to further reflect what could have been...
But I will be back doing it all again Saturday, lets hope the gods are smiling and this time I get one to the net

Re: Dolphin quays

I fished yesterday for 6hrs,no mullet but last knockings just as it was getting dark I had a terrific scrap with what turned out to be a fantastically coloured Ballan Wrasse,a new PB weighing 4lbs 14ozs,floatfished bluey flesh did the trick.

Re: Dolphin quays

Congratulations on this beautiful fish!. asked whether the fish beyond only use mackerel or other bait, if possible I would be interested bait, tackle and bait used (brand, model, size).
I am a beginner in this activity. thanks
