Good luck Pete... there are very few Thicks left in Poole... the gillnetting there is obscene. Still a few Thins...but you need a boat to get out to them on the shallows around the islands in the middle.

There are a few Thicks around Poole Quay... but nothing like it was years ago

Always used to be loads of mullet around Christchurch, just a short jaunt from Poole. But I am no expert on which sort.

Lots of Thins...although the bailiffs are fighting a losing battle against the nocturnal netters.

There are also some of the best Thick Lipped marks in the UK there...with countless 8s being caught there over the years.

I've only ever fished there for Thins....spinning a baited spoon and size 6 hook

Good luck

Re: Poole advice July 2011

The quay is the easiest place to try,in the marina by Dolphin quays,or by the old lifeboat musuem. I generally floatfish, finding mackerel flesh the best, and your chances are greatly increased if you can use a sack full of grounbait. Baits close to the bottom are more successful,I use a sliding float, and the depth here averages around 13ft,fish as tight to the wall as possible.
I am away in July or I would have joined you...
