jump

Hi, I'm interested to know for what reason mullet jumps. If anyone knows you'll be thanked. Greetings

Re: jump

Up here I have never seen a mullet actually jump out the water as salmon and seatrout do - sometimes to evade seals or to try to shake off lice (so I am told)
they do feed right on the surface at times and can be seen taking flies though

Re: jump

Thanks for the replies. up here we have 2 posibiliddes. 1) jumps for food, 2) parasite causes the jump. Please can extend the response of jumping for food and I can not understand the mechanism or relationship between the break and feeding. Who kindly reply thank you, as well as extend their theories about that jump. Greetings

Re: jump

They always have sealice on them.... that look like mini Horseshoe Crabs.

I've never seen them jump for food... but sometimes in play with other Mullet; especially just after high water. But it seems to me that its mostly out of irritation at parasites; as I've seen lone fish go from stationary to a sudden launch for no apparent reason.

Most of the time leaping Mullet are Thin Lipped Greys...the Thicks rarely do it
