| Portugal The grass in Portugal certainly isn’t greener than here in ‘luverly Blighty’….. and neither is the fishing. I had taken my light-line kit for the Mullet as some last minute research showed that the offshore fishing in the location was poor. My first trip was to look around the marina near Albufeira. It looked good on Google Earth… but the fish was few and far between; except in the no fishing parts of the marina ….as was quickly pointed out to me !!! I settled on the area at the mouth of the marina and in a couple of sessions I managed a few Mullet and lots of little Bream things ![]() ![]() ![]() The best I managed was a specimen sized fish for this location… it was certainly a monster compared to the others I saw ![]() Then it was back to the little ones http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...s/IMG_2090.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...s/IMG_2093.jpg Next up was to go farther afield, with my next ‘hot-spot’ at Portimao. The public coach service is as ‘cheap-as-chips’, with the return fare being 8 Euros !!!! It was an hour journey there, so thankfully the coaches are all air-conditioned. Started the session off in good form with a nice strong coffee and then after chatting to the local fisherman I set about catching the allegedly un-catchable Tainha (Mullet). ![]() The Mullet were numerous, but nothing bigger than a pound and most were only ounces. Still they were Mullet and so I explored along the shore and any structures; catching a dozen or more small Tainha and some more exotic Bream things. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...s/IMG_2103.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...s/IMG_2107.jpg ![]() http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...s/IMG_2115.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...s/IMG_2119.jpg It was a good day, but there still seemed more opportunities and areas to try, so I returned the next day for another go….well after another cracking cup of strong coffee ! Plenty more small Tainha and a few more bread-thieves ![]() http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...s/IMG_2125.jpg Then a real treat… my first ever Trigger Fish; a new pest species ![]() ![]() My best Mullet of the holiday was accompanied by the worse photographer !!! I think this fish would be classed as a local specimen fish; it was certainly the largest I saw over the whole week. ![]() |
